Whitelandia

Having a conversation with a friend this evening. A dear curendera mentor of mine came up in conversation, who shared with me her thoughts on Whitelandia. She asked me, “Hermano, tell me about this place, Whitelandia? Where does it come from? What is their medicine?” I'll never forget her words from this conversation. They sit deep within my heart as an eternal “Truth”.

The land and place that never existed.

We are our stories…and if they are forgotten and not shared…

Whiteness is not an origin; it is a social construct. It was built to separate people from the specific lands, languages, foods, stories, and medicines that shaped their ancestors over thousands of years, and to replace those deep roots with a shallow category of power and proximity to dominance.

All of us come from somewhere. Our DNA is indigenous to particular climates, watersheds, migration routes, cosmologies, and healing practices that our people learned through direct relationship with place. When those relationships are broken—through colonization, forced migration, assimilation, and erasure—we are offered “whiteness” instead: a category untethered from land but tied tightly to hierarchy.

In that sense, “white” is not just about skin. There are white, brown people, white Black people, and white people of every skin tone when they are pressed into a system that rewards distance from their own ancestral stories and alignment with domination. Whiteness trains people to forget where they come from, to distrust their own people’s knowledge, and to believe that superiority is natural.

“White” is a construct of domination, oppression, and imagined superiority—a fallacy and a fault line in our human existence. The work in front of us is not just to critique whiteness, but to remember: to turn back toward the lands and lineages that know our true names, our true foods, our true medicines. When we re-root in those older, wilder identities, whiteness loses its power to define us at all.

“The 'Great Melting Pot' of these United States was not a call to unity. It was a demand to conform, comply, and erase…..
